E9x, E8x Ford 8.8 IRS Differential Swap Kit

Upgrade your BMW E9x or E8x chassis with our kit to swap in a 2007-2010 Ford Explorer IRS 8.8 rear differential. Known for its strength and availability, the Ford 8.8 is a major upgrade over the stock BMW unit.

Key Features:

  • Strong & Lightweight: Late-model Explorer aluminum housing with dual front mount ears and a rear cover with mounting bosses.

  • Proven Performance: Lighter than the BMW iron diff and nearly indestructible—used in our car and customers that hit a sub-1.2-second 60-foot.

Kit Includes:

  • OEM-Friendly: Uses OEM BMW front mounts and ties directly into the bottom of the rear subframe to reduce wheel hop.

  • Flexible Fitment: Rear bracket works with early and late subframe hole patterns. Some minor drilling may be needed; M10 hardware included.

  • Easy Install: Includes subframe inserts with captive nuts for added strength and a cleaner install.

What You'll Still Need:

  • Axles: Available from Drive Shaft Shop or off-the-shelf from Seems Legit Garage.

  • Driveshaft: Use a custom unit from a local shop or modify your stock one.

Tips:

  • Use stock or poly bushings in the subframe to allow for some flex.

  • Avoid full solid mounts—the solid rear bracket doesn’t allow any torsional movement.

Note: Not compatible with M3 models.
